Advanced Biofuels Conference

– New technologies, new production plants – biofuels are ready for take-off!

During 18-20 September, 2018 the Swedish Bioenergy Association (Svebio) is organizing its 4th Advanced Biofuels Conference, in Gothenburg. The conference will start with study visits and is followed by two conference days and cover aviation, maritime and land transport sectors.

There is plenty to see, hear and discuss. The Nordics are a hotbed of activity when it comes to advancing and implementing biofuels. Both Sweden and Finland reached in 2015 more than two times the target of European Union (EU) 2020 renewable energy in transportation. HVO is a leading advanced biofuel in terms of commercial production capacity with Nordic companies behind the lion’s share of global production. Along with HVO100, Swedish motorists and fleet operators have already today a selection of bio-CNG, E85, ED95 as well as conventional 95-octane gasoline with up to 15 percent renewable components at filling stations.

This conference will highlight the latest projects and plants with leading international experts presenting an update on biofuel technologies. The Advanced Biofuels Conference is intended for those who are interested in creating a sustainable transport sector. Speakers and delegates will be policy makers and politicians, leading scientists, researchers, engineers, as well as executives and representatives from companies and organizations.

What to expect

The conference will offer three days with 150 decision-making attendees from the entire value chain: Feedstock to consumer brands via policy, technology, finance and innovation. It’s a one-stop-shop to meet new partners from across the entire value chain, at one time in one place. Featured speakers at the conference include:

  • Chairperson: Jakob Lagercrantz, 2030-Secretariat
  • Carl Nyberg, Managing Director, Neste
  • Greg Dolan, CEO, Methanol Institute

Study visits 18 September – St1 Refinery & Södra Cell Värö

Our study tour on 18 September will preliminary include a visit to St1 Refinery in Gothenburg, a pioneer in advanced biofuels producing ethanol form different waste materials with several plants built in Finland and Sweden. Etanolix® plants producing ethanol form food industry waste and today Cellunolix® plant producing cellulosic ethanol from sawdust.

The second stop will preliminary include Södra Cell Värö Biorefinery which is the biggest sawmill and the most modern pulp mill in Sweden. Södra have broad portfolio of biofuel projects and investments, from biomethanol plant under construction to demonstration of large-scale biofuels production with Statkraft in Norway and commercial operation at SunPine with tall diesel production and new investment in a second plant.

At the Advanced Biofuels Conference we pride ourselves on being by the industry, for the industry and a part of the industry. Our detailed, thorough, commercially driven agenda and speaker line-up would not be possible without the support and commitment of our partners and sponsors.
